That there is an RV: Day 1

We embarked on the great American Road Trip of 2015 ~ RV Style! in May 2015. The trip was seriously so fun and I think we'd do it again in a heartbeat, only maybe next time not so far. Ha! Steven and I decided it would be fun to rent an RV and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway with the kids. Our first thought was to drive from CA all the way to Seattle, but then we realized that we would either A) have to take a ton of vacation time or B) not stop anywhere to enjoy the sites. In the end, we went with option C) and drove from SLC to the Redwood forest up the coast to Portland and back home. Even then, the trip was 10 days long.  :)  Good thing we like each other.

Looking back on this trip, it is amazing that we thought the kids were "so old," as if they were totally big enough to do this trip and remember it. Roxi was only 18 months old! That seems crazy. She obviously doesn't remember a thing and Noah was only 3.5 years, so he doesn't remember much. Hopefully this blog will help them remember.

We were hoping to get the smallest RV ~ the 19 footer. But alas, because there were 4 of us (even though I felt like Roxi as a baby shouldn't count), they wouldn't let us rent that one. So, we opted for the 25 footer. We figured that still wouldn't be too bad to drive. However, when we went to pick it up, we were upgraded to the 30 foot RV.  WHAT?!  Yikes!  The thing was huge!  It seemed so much bigger than we needed, with an entire separate bedroom in the back. And it was obviously a heck of a lot harder to drive. But ~ in the end, it was SO nice to have!  We didn't have to worry about putting down/up beds each day, and we had tons of room for the kids to play, when it was raining outside. (Because you know, when you go to the coast in May, it rains. Ha!)

Day 1 was packing and heading out of town.  The kids had to buckle, even in the RV, which we didn't really realize, but they actually did great. We drove through a huge storm along I-80 and the salt lake, which made Steven a bit nervous to drive through. He did great, but the wind was definitely howling.  We stayed that first night in a rest stop parking lot, outside of Reno ~ and vowed we'd never do that again!  Apparently truck drivers think it's really funny to run their generators all night and park right next to RVs.  They clearly don't have kids of their own.
On the way!

The kids were thrilled. haha!

Seriously, look how far back this thing goes! It was huge!

Great Salt Lake from the road. I've never been on I-80 westbound. It was pretty desolate, but pretty along the lake, especially with the storm.

Roxi took her turn driving too. Or at least she wanted to. :)
